Root Ball

Matted roots plus enclosed soil within the pot of a container or burlap of a "balled and burlapped" grown plant. Can also be said of any plant (tree, shrub or perennial) dug from a bed. This term applies to the mass of roots and soil when plant material is transplanted. The root ball should be kept intact when transplanting.
