Pollard

Pollarding means heading back one to two-year-old growth to the same place year after year to keep trees small and to have a lush formal appearance. Regular pruning back of to the trunk or central stem of a tree or shrub. Crape Myrtles are pruned this way for no virtue of appearance but for a misguided desire for more blossoms.
