Hardening Off
Gradual acclimatization to toughen plants by giving lengthening periods of exposure to colder conditions.

Additional Information
This is done over several days, increasing the time outside each day. Usually done when taking seedlings or transplants out of the greenhouse or moving them outside to a cold frame or protected area, prior to transplanting them into the garden. This should also be done when moving indoor grown plants out for the summer months.
