Grafting
The process of joining a desirable stem or bud of one plant (known as the scion) on to the less desirable, but hardier, or more disease resistant stem of another (known as the stock or 'rootstock').
Additional Information
This is a propagation technique that will give the scion a stronger root system than it would have normally had. Commonly done in roses, fruit trees and in some ornamentals. Although the techniques of grafting may seem terribly difficult, a bit of instruction is usually all that is needed for most people to accomplish successful grafts.
